This document outlines the official competition rules, policies, and conduct standards for the Power League men’s basketball competition.
1. Competition Rules
- The competition runs for 8 weeks of round-robin play, followed by semifinals in Week 9 and the Final in Week 10.
- Each team may register up to 12 players.
- Entry fee: $3,500 per team, with a $1,000 deposit due by [Deposit Due Date] and the remaining $2,500 due by [Final Payment Date].
- Games are scheduled in one-hour blocks each week.
- Game format: Four (4) quarters of 10 minutes each with a running clock.
- During the last 2 minutes of the fourth quarter, the clock will stop on all whistles (stop-clock).
- Overtime (if required) will be 2 minutes, stop-clock, starting with a jump ball.
- There will be a one (1) minute break between quarters and a two (2) minute halftime break.
- Uniforms will be supplied by the league (reversible light and dark).
- Rules follow the latest FIBA Official Basketball Rules with modifications to suit the Power League format.
- Each team must submit its roster and consent forms before the registration deadline. Players under 18 require written parental or guardian consent.
- Each team must provide one member to assist with scorebench duties (timekeeping and scoring).
2. Team Eligibility and Rosters
- Teams may register a maximum of 12 players.
- All players must be at least 15 years old on the first day of competition. Players under 18 require written parental or guardian consent.
- To maintain competitive balance, a maximum of two (2) current NBL or equivalent professional players (including Men’s National Team players) are permitted per team.
- Players may not play for more than one team during the season.
- Roster changes after submission require league approval. Unapproved changes will result in forfeiture of affected games.
3. Format and Standings
- Teams receive two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a loss, and zero (0) points for a forfeit.
- Tiebreakers will be determined by: (1) head-to-head record, (2) point differential, (3) total points scored, (4) coin toss (if required).
- At the conclusion of round-robin play, the top four (4) teams advance to the semifinals (Week 9). Winners advance to the Final (Week 10).
4. Prize Distribution
All prize money will be distributed at the conclusion of the season after the Final has been played.
- Fifty percent (50%) of the total prize pool will be allocated to teams based on their round-robin performance (e.g., $100 per win).
- The remaining fifty percent (50%) will be distributed among the top three playoff teams as follows:
- First Place – approximately 60% of the playoff prize pool
- Second Place – approximately 30% of the playoff prize pool
- Third Place – approximately 10% of the playoff prize pool
5. Deposits and Refunds
- A $1,000 non-refundable deposit is required to secure team entry.
- Final balance of $2,500 must be paid by [Final Payment Date].
- Teams withdrawing after paying the deposit forfeit the deposit.
- Teams withdrawing within three (3) weeks of competition start date are not entitled to any refund.
- Teams withdrawing after the season has commenced are not eligible for any refund.
- If the league is cancelled by the organiser (e.g., force majeure), a 100% refund will be issued.
- Refunds may be offset against any outstanding fines or obligations.
6. Code of Conduct
- All participants must demonstrate respect toward referees, officials, opponents, teammates, and spectators.
- Verbal or physical abuse toward officials or players is strictly prohibited.
- Players ejected from a game must leave the court and venue immediately.
- Teams are responsible for the behaviour of their players, staff, and supporters.
- Off-court behaviour (e.g., social media posts) that damages the league’s reputation may result in disciplinary action.
- Sanctions may include warnings, suspensions, or loss of current or future prize eligibility.
- Repeated or severe misconduct may result in removal from the competition without refund.
7. Discipline and Protests
- A league-appointed committee will handle all disciplinary matters, protests, and eligibility disputes.
- Protests must be lodged within thirty (30) minutes of the end of a game using the official form and accompanied by a $200 fee.
- Grounds for protest include player eligibility, scorekeeping errors, or rule misapplication. Referee judgment calls cannot be protested.
- The committee will review and issue a decision within 48 hours. If a protest is upheld, the $200 fee will be refunded; if denied, it is forfeited.
- Minor offences may result in warnings or suspensions.
- Serious misconduct (e.g., violence, threats) may result in multi-game suspensions and loss of current team prize eligibility.
- Use of an ineligible player results in game forfeiture and removal from the prize pool.
- Appeals must be lodged within seven (7) days of a decision and accompanied by a $200 fee. Appeal decisions are final.
8. Privacy Policy
- Power League collects and uses limited personal information to manage competition operations.
- Information collected includes team contacts, player names, ages, emergency contacts, game statistics, photos, and payment details. Physical addresses are not collected.
- Personal data is used for scheduling, communication, results publication, and marketing purposes related to Power League.
- Data is stored securely and will not be sold or shared with unauthorised third parties.
- Participants may request correction or deletion of their personal information by contacting the organiser in writing.
- By registering, teams and players consent to this policy and the use of images or video footage for promotional purposes.
